Melodic Contour – Up, Down, Same
These worksheets are designed for use in the early stages of music education.
You simply play or sing one of the options in the line, and the students circle what they hear.
They are not for practicing specific melodic elements such as letter names or solfa syllables, they are for helping to develop the concept of ascending, descending and repeated pitches.

Description
These worksheets are designed for use in the early stages of music education.
You simply play or sing one of the options in the line, and the students circle what they hear.
They are not for practicing specific melodic elements such as letter names or solfa syllables, they are for helping to develop the concept of ascending, descending and repeated pitches.
The worksheets with staff notation are therefore not for specific note recognition, just to show the students that ascending sounds are shown as ascending notes on the staff etc. This concept is important.
There are three versions of these three worksheets:
1. Using the words ‘Up’, ‘Down’ and ‘Same’ with arrows for pitch direction.
2. Using the words ‘Up’, ‘Down’ and ‘Same’ with notes on the staff for pitch direction
3. Using the words ‘Ascending’, ‘Descending’ and ‘Same’ with arrows for pitch direction.
4. Using the words ‘Ascending’, ‘Descending’ and ‘Same’ with notes on the staff for pitch direction.
Choose whichever version you prefer.
Use these in workbooks, on the data projector or even as assessment sheets.
