Sequence of Concepts and Elements
I truly believe there is no right or wrong order to teach music skills and concepts. I do, however, believe it is not ideal to just guess and do what you reckon will work. Learn from others more experienced, study, read the research, try things out…
I have used the skeleton image because that is the way I think about this – as the core, the bones that hold everything together. Music Teachers get to use their own creative wonderfulness to add everything else.
Having said that, this is basically the sequence that I use at the moment. I teach minim earlier than many because I feel the repertoire is more suited for that younger age group. I also find they learn it quite easily. This is not ‘Right’, nor is it ‘Wrong’.
Please use this as one example as you find your way to the best way for you and your students.
